So, here were are, the dawning of a new age....or something. Anyway, today's my first every giveaway. That's right, free stuff! Just enter below and you can win a lovely copy of Thief's Covenant by Ari Marmell, thanks to the wonderful people at Pyr SF. They're building quite the army of great YA authors, so you'd best take notice.
This is a very fun YA fantasy book, and I'm only going to do a mini review here since I want to get you straight to the free stuff.
I loved
Now, you know I liked the book, but don't just take my word for it. Check out reviews here, here and here. It's also worth noting that the shiny white cover could be used to make your pet dog or cat go crazy chasing ghost lights, or deter would-be thieves, murderers and rapists by shining it in their eyes.
Some quick notes:
First, YOU MUST COMMENT ON THE POST in order to be eligible for the giveaway at all. Anything you do after that gets you an increased chance of winning, but without that comment I won't count your entry.
Second, YOU CAN TWEET ABOUT ONCE PER DAY. That's right, each tweet that you blast out into the ether during the six days that I'm running this giveaway will get you 10 extra points. Each Day! That's a lot! Now, to make sure that it's all working the way I'd like it to, just include @myawfulreviews in the tweet, and we'll be golden. :)
Third, THIS IS NOT INTERNATIONAL. Sorry guys, but I can't afford to go shipping books all over the world. So this is US only.
So, what are you waiting for? You've seen the book, you know it's shiny, now get entering!

I loved
- The plot. It was interesting, and enjoyable for me to move back and forth in time and see what events caused others.
- The humor. Though it feels at points like it's trying to hard, it still had me chuckling.
- Widdershins relationship with her god. It's very interesting, and often the source of the book's best humor.
- Sometimes the humor seemed like it was trying too hard, and the long sentence structure didn't always sit well with the action scenes for me.

I will just comment. :)
ReplyDeleteComment for what sounds like an excellent book.
ReplyDeleteDon't think you can go wrong with Locke Lamora, I have a soft spot for con-artists.
ReplyDeleteOh I can't wait to read this book. Hopefully I get the win!
ReplyDeleteLove the premise of this story.
ReplyDeleteWho wouldn't want their own helpful, pocket god to aid them on their escapades.
Also as far lovable rogues go, my most recent favorites are Digger from Bunce's novel, Starcrossed. And a favorite from a more middle grade fantasy is Goldie from Lian Tanner's The Keepers series.
ReplyDeleteVlad Taltos series by Steven Brust
ReplyDeleteI would like to check this book out, so here is my comment.
ReplyDeleteOh, and of course Locke Lamora is the best thief series. Not even close.
ReplyDeleteJust wondering if this competition is available to international people? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAw, crap. I knew there was something I needed to mention. Yeah, not available to international, sorry! I just don't have the cash to do anything more than the cheapest shipping.
ReplyDeleteI *immediately* thought of Silk from David Edding's Belgariad series. He is such a fantastic comic relief in the books and his back story is equally good. Thanks for the giveaway! :-)
ReplyDeleteI think Kelsier fits the description of loveable rogue. He is charismatic and powerful, optimistic and far-reaching.
ReplyDeleteSent over from the Little Red Reviewer. What an interesting concept. I love science fiction and especially those with female leading characters!
ReplyDeleteJust recently heard about this book. Very interesting premise.
ReplyDeleteHmmm... I think Professor Challenger (in A.C. Doyle's The Lost World) qualifies as a "lovable rogue." He's definitely one of my favorite characters. :) Thanks for hosting this giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI've read many good reviews about this book, I'm still a bit cautious about this humor trying too hard but I think I'd very much like to see it for myself!
ReplyDeleteEasy... Jimmy The Hand from Feist's books ^^ I love him!
ReplyDeleteoh damn..i noticed the comment now..better mention it somewhere at the post :/
ReplyDeleteNevermind..maybe next time :)
Yeah, sorry about the international thing. One of these days I'll go nuts and do an international one. Until then, I'm a cheapskate and we'll have to stick with US only :(
ReplyDeleteOoh, this book has been on my wish list for a few months now!
ReplyDeleteAnd I just realized that the name above doesn't match up with my twitter account at all...darnit...
